Seeking former debaters to help SVUDL empower young leaders and make smart cool!
Founded in 2014, the Silicon Valley Urban Debate League has quickly grown to reach hundreds of students in seven schools in San Jose and the Peninsula. The wave of demand from schools has inspired us to grow, building from a base of deep school partnerships that leverage a strong community of student leaders, invested coaches, and committed volunteers to engage dozens of youth at each school.
As SVUDL enters its third year of service to students in the Silicon Valley, our program has shown signs of becoming one of the most innovative in the country. SVUDL seeks experienced educators who know the life-changing power of debate to help lead our growing program team as Head Coaches and anchor for debate programming at our partner high school sites. Each SVUDL Head Coach will be the primary leader SVUDL program growth and management at schools in one of our core regions, currently San Jose and East Palo Alto, helping build and implement a shared vision among youth, teachers, school administrators, volunteers, and stakeholders. The role includes full time instruction of debate curriculum for two competitive debate teams, delivery and support of professional development for teachers, supplemental program support including College Access and Women’s Association and an opportunity to have the best coaching job in the country. With over a hundred debaters at seven schools, more on the wait list, and strong support from stakeholders, SVUDL is positioned and prepared to empower more young leaders through the engaging sport of debate.
Each Head Coach will be the primary leader for 2 SVUDL partner schools, helping build and implement a shared vision among the teachers, staff, volunteers, and youth to reach dozens of students at each campus. This is a high-level debate specific position, for which highly qualified candidates will be considered. The selected applicant will be offered a competitive salary with excellent benefits, and the opportunity to collaborate with a supportive and dedicated team of volunteers, board members, and staff.
Position start date is May 30th, and flexible if necessary to accommodate the right candidate.
This position requires a special combination of skills and experience, and your assistance sharing this opportunity with as many as possible, particularly those with experience in urban education and high-level policy debate experience.
