The Ella Baker Invitational was our Black history month tribute to a strong woman who believed in the power of personal agency. With her legacy in mind, novice debaters gathered on Overfelt's campus to debate genetic surveillance for the final time. JV students battled it out on an even wider range of domestic surveillance topics and impressed both rookie and veteran judges. The tournament host, Assistant Principal Paul Pinza, was gracious enough to not only give us space, but also help us recruit new students! Special thanks to him and the entire Overfelt debate team who won the coveted Spirit Award. We were pleased to train and welcome first-time judges from the Mayer Brown Law firm. Thanks to attorney Andrew Ho, we had 12 lawyers from Mayer Brown.
Our new spring interns Rachel and Long got a great introduction to policy debate and the volunteer of the year award went to Zach Rosenthal of Stanford!
A big congrats to some of our top winners!
