SVUDL does a lot. We support youth in developing academic skills- critical thinking, the ability to read and understand complex texts, facility in dissecting an argument, firsthand experience with rigorous research and argumentation. We help them discover their own leadership potential by providing opportunities to be team captains, media organizers, and recruitment captains. We connect them with Career Mentors and an alumni network to provide support and advice that assist with graduation and transitions to college and career.
There are many long benefits for the youth who participate, including improved confidence, self-efficacy, and greater ability to formulate and present articulate positions on issues of social justice, civic engagement, and the world at large. The most visible and immediate short-term impacts, however, are high school graduation and college matriculation.
To that end, we're thrilled to report that 100% of the SVUDL Seniors who graduated last May are in college. The list of schools that accepted SVUDL grads includes: Howard, Xavier, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Oregon State, Hofstra University, UCLA, Gonzaga, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, Santa Clara University, San Jose State, San Francisco State, and CSU East Bay. This first generation of SVUDL grads has made their mark, and we can't wait to see what they do next!
