Last night, nearly 30 SVUDL youth went to the Skadden Arps office in Palo Alto to network with attorneys and to call on their own critical thinking and debate skills to watch and analyze the Presidential debate.
SVUDL youth are sharp and insightful. One noted that the anger and personal nature of barbs between candidates at times took them from humorous to cringe-worthy. They noticed when the candidates dropped arguments, didn't provide detailed plans, or failed to answer questions. After the debate, each student shared one item they agreed with a candidate on, and their answers showed sophisticated understanding of economics, argument, and foreign affairs.
Skadden Arps attorneys attended as well and connected with the youth prior to the debate. It was a great opportunity for the students to connect with practicing attorneys and for the attorneys to meet these rising young stars. Whoever you think won the debate, the true winners are these young leaders who, thanks to their engagement with debate, are going to change the world.
