Just days after learning that Denise is a finalist for Urban Debater of the Year, we are thrilled to announce that Shauntrice Martin has earned her own impressive accolade- the Silicon Valley Business Journal has named her one of Silicon Valley's Women of Influence for 2017!
The Woman of Influence award is presented each year to local businesswomen, community leaders and philanthropists who are a force in the region. These pioneers to shatter glass ceilings, knock down doors, and create their own paths and help others along the way. All awardees will be honored at an event to be held May 18.
Shauntrice richly deserves this award. An experienced crusader for social justice and a passionate advocate for young people, she has worked with hundreds of youth and educators. Her social justice work spans international borders and includes training with Ella Baker Freedom Schools and completing fellowships in Belize, Trinidad & Tobago, and the Dominican Republic. At SVUDL we consider ourselves lucky to have her on our team as the Program Director for the Peninsula region.
Shauntrice goes above and beyond every day, leveraging her extensive personal network for the success of SVUDL students. She lives dedication to community, is recognized nationally as a speaker on racial justice, and has been published in the Cincinnati Law School Greater Freedom Journal, by the International Conference on Transatlantic History at the University of Texas, Arlington, and more.
Shauntrice is a regular volunteer at the Live In Peace center, Debate Alum Volunteer Coach for the University of Louisville, and is a member of the Rotary club of East Palo Alto. This superwoman is also an outstanding mother to her son (the Black Superboy) and works tirelessly to support and nurture her community in East Palo Alto.
