Impromptu

  • In Impromptu (IMP), a student chooses from three topics (often quotes or nouns). Students have two minutes to prepare. Then, they must stand and deliver a 3-5 minute speech.

Impromptu tests a student’s ability to analyze a prompt, process their thoughts, organize a speech with an introduction, body, and conclusion, and deliver their speech in a clear, coherent manner.

Original Oratory

  • In Original Oratory, a student delivers a 10-minute prewritten speech on a topic. Oratory encourages students to showcase their voice and passion for their topic. Students will researched and organize presentations with appeals to evidence, logic, emotion, and sometimes humor to convey a message.

Topics may explore values that affect people personally, such as avoiding peer pressure, or they can investigate questions in policy and ask to enact particular policies or to solve societal problems.
